Game Review Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles, the console game based on the anime adaptation of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is out now for PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S! The Steam version is already released as well. Have you played the game? Let us share with you my quick game review of the game.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles Quick Information

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles features both the Adventure Mode that follows the story as portrayed in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime, and the Versus Mode where you can take control of the characters from the anime and match up against other players.

In Adventure Mode, you can follow Tanjiro Kamado and dive into the story from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime by yourself! This game includes the events of the “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc” where Tanjiro began his journey, joined the Demon Slayer Corps, and fought a variety of demons, as well as the “Mugen Train Arc” where he was accompanied by the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku.

In the Versus Mode, 12 characters from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime, including Tanjiro Kamado and Nezuko Kamado, as well as 6 characters from the series’ official spinoff, Junior High and High School!! Kimetsu Academy Story, will join the Versus Mode. You can choose any combination of 2 characters from a total of 18 characters to take part in battles!

The Hinokami Chronicles Game Review

Graphics, 10/10. I am giving Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles a perfect graphics of 10. The game is so fluid and makes you feel that you are watching the original game while controlling the important and key battles of the characters. The animation was really superb and it gives you the nostalgia of what happens in the anime.

Versus Mode: 6/10. I think the versus mode is good. The animations were once again superb but the fact that when I did try the online match I cannot find an online opponent was disappointing. It’s either there were not enough players on my chosen server or gamers are not planning to really do versus battle online.

I was also having issues with the control in the battle because unlike other battle games, your reaction to an attack should really be pretty quick otherwise you will be defeated outright. I think these are some of the things that should be improved.

Story, 9/10. The richness of the story is really great with memories being added as you go along in the adventure mode. It makes you learn more about the other characters as well as the demons that they are battling. It is like having a more in-depth knowledge of the whole KMNY universe.

Recommendation: I highly recommend this game even if you have finished the anime already. It is a whole new experience for you. The versus mode can be great entertainment for you and your siblings or family at home. I just hope that the ranked match and online battle will have more players.

Standard Edition vs Deluxe Edition

The price difference between a Standard Edition and a Deluxe Edition of the game is just USD10, so I recommend buying the latter. You get ahold of 4 Character Unlock Keys, 3 In-game Costumes, PSN Avatars Set of 12, a Custom Theme (PS4) plus 8K Slayer Points.

Playstation Store Version of the Game

I really love the add-ons of the Deluxe Edition and I highly recommend that you purchase it as well.

Free Update Info: Demons Join Versus Mode!

3 free updates will be available after the game’s release, adding demons to the Versus Mode Battles as playable characters. The first update will introduce Rui, the Lower Five, and Akaza, the Upper Three, as Versus Mode characters.

Further details will be announced later. Stay tuned!

About the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Anime

The animated adaptation of Koyoharu Gotoge’s manga series from Shueisha Jump Comics has now sold over 150 million copies of volumes 1~23 in total. The show, which originally began broadcast in April 2019, follows the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a boy whose family was slaughtered by a demon while his own sister, Nezuko, was turned into one herself. Tanjiro Kamado joined the Demon Slayer Corps to find a way to turn his sister back into a human. This adventure exploded in popularity not only in Japan but also around the world, as it portrayed the heartrending ties between humans and demons and a ghastly swashbuckler while having moments of comic relief.

Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, premiering October 2020 in Japan and later worldwide, directly follows the events of “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc” of the anime series. By May 24 in Japan alone, the movie scored around 28,966,806 audiences and ¥40,016,942,050 in box office revenue, with total revenue of around ¥51.7 billion and 41.35 million audiences in 45 regions around the world. In Japan, the TV anime series “Mugen Train Arc” premieres in October, followed by the TV anime series “Entertainment District Arc” in December.
